Playful Spinners

I was so happy to see some dolphins jumping as I was driving home today.  Just had to stop and enjoy the show!

There's something about boats just floating about in the afternoon that I find very relaxing.

I came across this small memorial garden at the clinic on base.  It's really a lovely area.  I hope to visit it many more times.

Hiking Maunawili Ditch Trail

Mackey and I joined the Hawaiian Humane Society for their monthly hike today.  This hike in Waimanalo is relatively easy and is only about three miles long.  It was a nice morning except for getting stung by a bee...

Zebra Dove.  I like that they are not too afraid of people and let me get fairly close to them.  I had not seen any before with a spike!

Now that the sun is setting earlier and earlier, it's a challenge to get home in time to take the dogs out for a nice long walk.  We made it today and watched the sun set on the way back home.

aloe

Not too long ago, this was a tiny aloe plant in the side yard.  It seems the more I ignore it, the more it grows.

Prickly Pear Cactus

I found the purple growth on this cactus to be pretty interesting visually...I later learned that they are actually fruit called 'tuna' and is a common delicacy in Mexico.

Cotton Field

I have enjoyed the surprise of driving along and coming upon beautiful fields of white.  Especially with the back drop of fall foliage.  We stopped one day so I could snap some photos and the farmer drove up in his truck!  He gave us a lesson on cotton farming...from planting, harvesting, taking it to the gin, uses of cotton and cotton seeds!!  It was really a learning experience.  And then I find out he worked on the same base that I work on when he was stationed in Hawaii during the War.

Shake a Tail Feather

I visited a friend of my parents...he has a variety of birds, including peacocks and turkeys, on his property.  These turkeys seemed to be a bit like pets.  They followed us (him) all over the place and cracked me up the whole time.  They really strutted their stuff, made lots of gobble sounds, and shook their tail feathers!!  It was awesome to watch.

African Grey Parrot

Took a trip to Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park...a really neat place to visit!  This African Grey Parrot was quite a character showing off his red tail.  I learned that they are considered one of the most intelligent birds.

American Wood Duck

I found these ducks so striking & I love the way that they were looking at each other like in conversation.

I find it interesting that something dying can be so lovely.

Fall Colors

One thing that I miss living in Hawaii is the fall colors.  I am loving being on East Coast during this change of seasons.

Snow

Not in Hawaii anymore...taking a little trip to visit family & friends.  This is likely to be the only image of snow this year (hopefully!).
