Manana Falls

Two hikes in one weekend...WooHooo!  This was a rainy & slippery hike down to the falls.  There were mixed reviews from the friends I was with on if it was worth it.

I think these two were starting to make a nest on our lanai.  Unfortunately, I believe Gabby scared them away.

Hot Peppers

Finally, I found something that the birds won't eat!  I've tried strawberries and tomatoes in this planter, but lost almost everything to the birds.  Apparently, they do not like hot peppers.

Peace

Went to see the Dalai Lama today.  He is here in Hawaii for a four day trip promoting peace.  Yesterday he gave a talk to students here in Hawaii and today's talk was for the general public.  It was a nice talk.  No matter your religious beliefs, a message of peace and compassion is always good.

Koko Head Hike

View from atop Koko Head Crater....I tried this hike once before and got a migraine halfway up, so I did not enjoy it at all.  I wouldn't exactly say that I enjoyed climbing railroad ties straight up a crater today, but I did enjoy the breeze and view from the top.

Peacock Sighting

I love it when I get to see a Peacock...and it's been quite awhile since I've seen one here in Hawaii.  This fellow stopped traffic and slowly strolled across the road, jumped over a four foot fence and then disappeared into a wooded area.

Albatross Mating Activities

I have a bit of a fasination with these Laysan Albatross.  I love watching them.  During this visit to Ka'ena Point, they appeared to be doing their mating dance.  They bob their heads up and down, clap their beaks together, and make some interesting sounds while reaching their beaks toward the sky.   I could have spent the entire afternoon watching them.  Have I mentioned before that they mate for life?

Ka'ena Point, Round Three

Third trip out to Ka'ena Point this year so far...here's the same baby albatross from  March 3rd & February 11th.  He's growing fast!
