A Lovely Spot

I love that I can still find new little spots on this island that I've lived on for 10 years!

Lantern Floating Hawaii Ceremony

Thousands of people created and released lanterns in remembrance of loved ones.  It was beautiful to see.

Interesting day at the beach...

Today was a pretty amazing day, so I couldn't choose just one picture.  I decided to stop by the beach to let my dog, Gabby, run around and swim a bit.  I saw the dolphins first when we were still in the car!  After watching them for awhile, we started walking and came upon a hawaiian monk seal almost immediately.  We watched him for awhile as he got in the water and then back out to continue sunbathing.  Gabby was startled and very interested when he moved around.  Then as we continued walking, I saw turtle after turtle swimming in the water.  It actually took awhile to find a place to go in where Gabby wouldn't encounter any turtles!

Pu'u O Mahuka Heiau

Went for a hike with the Hawaiian Humane Society again.  This one was on the North Shore.  After the hike, we stopped by Pu'u O Mahuka Heiau. Here are the remains of the ancient Heiau and the view from the far side which looks down on Waimea Bay.  Bits of this view were visible from the hike as well.

The traffic was crazy this afternoon, so I stopped at the beach for a quick dip.  It was the perfect start to the holiday weekend!

Poached Pear Salad

I don't normally take pictures of my food, but I was surprised by the presentation of this 'salad'.

Second time in my life for swimming with dolphins in the ocean.  Absolutely amazing.  Hearing them was very cool too.

Along the sidewalk that leads to the gym, there are hedges.  These vines grow along the hedges.  It's a nice little pathway.  That gym is closing this weekend, so I guess I will not be walking this way any longer.

I was standing on the sidewalk in a neighborhood when I took this picture which means the house that I was standing in front of...this is their view.  Is that not awesome?

Came across this during our afternoon walk.  I don't remember this tree having any blooms or fruit before. It is on one of the regular routes that we take, so I'd like to think that I would have noticed something so pretty?!

Did someone place them like that?  If so, it's interesting that they stayed there.  It was rather windy.

a growing albatross

February
March
April
May

I've been out to Ka'ena Point several times this year and have been watching this one particular baby albatross grow...  Thanks to her mama for making the nest so close to the walking path!  These pictures were each taken about one month apart from February-May.  I am guessing that the next time I get out there, s/he will have gotten adult wings and will be soaring above.

My Four-Legged Babies

I had a scare recently with my boy and it was good reminder for me to appreciate what I have.  We never know what each day will bring.

Hello Monday

This completely fits how I felt this morning.  I really could have used another day in the weekend!

It is quite amazing that this fellow was able to hang on.  The winds felt fairly strong and the palm was blowing all over the place.  He looks a bit annoyed to me.  As soon as the wind calmed down, he scurried back down to the base.

I found my Gabby Girl stretched out next to the back fence being very quiet.  This was rather strange because the only reason she goes over to that area is if the neighbor's dog is out and then she either barks or whines.  So, I peek over the fence to see if anything is there and this little cat is looking up at me!  I took a picture of her and then the wind blew my hair up.  I must have looked like Medusa because the cat's eyes got very big and then she dashed away.
